Opera Brava in their 36th year are delighted to perform Madam Butterfly at Borde Hill garden.   This exciting new production set in Japan with a magnificent international cast will leave you enthralled and moved with it’s incredible music. 

Zita Syme performs Madam Butterfly and is a rising star in the Opera world. Her portrayal of the central character will leave you both enthralled and heartbroken at the end.  Hakan Vramsmo is singing  Sharpless  an Ambassador with a heart and magnificent voice. Pinkerton played by Paul Hopwood makes his debut at Covent Garden in 2025.

Puccini called ‘Madam Butterfly’ his favourite work, one he never tired of listening to in its entirety. 

Madam Butterfly is the heart wrenching story of a beautiful young geisha who sacrifices her family, her religion and, ultimately, her life for her American husband. Butterfly is the young bride of Lieutenant Pinkerton, who buys Butterfly's love while stationed in Japan and with no intention of ever taking her home to America.

Opera Brava brings Puccini’s most beloved operas to life in spectacular open-air performances accompanied by a chamber ensemble and set against the enchanting backdrop of Borde Hill. From the heart-wrenching tragedy of La Bohème to the exotic allure of Madam Butterfly, immerse yourself in the powerful beauty of Puccini’s timeless music.
