SUMMER 2021 TOUR
Next summer we are planning to bring you four fantastic productions in magnificent venues around the U.K.
TOSCA by Puccini
Tosca is one of the most lethal operas. None of the central characters make it to the end alive, hero or villain. Unsurprisingly then, it's a thrilling melodrama often dismissed as one dimensional. However you would be foolish to go in with this attitude. Opera Brava have set this production in Rome in the 1940's during the war and they take Puccini's overtly theatrical tale and make it astonishingly moving with an unusual twist in the final death scene .......
In late eighteenth century Seville, a young girl. Rosina, is kept a virtual prisoner by her guardian, Doctor Bartolo, who hopes to marry when she is of age and enrich himself from her dowry. The young and ardent Count Almaviva, who wants Rosina to love him for himself and not for his wealth or title, engages the help of Figaro, the local factotem and his former servant, to frustrate Bartolo's plan and marry Rosina himself.
Alfredo falls in love with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s fantastic melodies include the famous Brindisi and the exuberant ‘Sempre libera’ – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing.
