From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heart breaking reconciliation that sadly comes too late. Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the most popular of all operas. Alfredo falls in love with the captivating courtesan Violetta, who lives life revelling in the hedonistic lifestyle that Parisian society affords. But underneath the surface lie rumblings of the tragedy that ultimately unfolds. The opera’s fantastic melodies include the famous ‘Brindisi’ and the exuberant ‘Sempre Libera’ – both examples of the lyricism of Italian opera at its best. Christopher Lane’s production for Opera Brava brings out the emotional colour from the discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion.
