La Bohème

G. Puccini

Puccini’s La Bohème is one of the most famous operas ever written, following the unforgettable story of two young, bohemian lovers in Paris. With a great love story comes a beautiful score, including arias like Musetta’s Waltz and ‘Yes, they call me Mimì’ (Si, mi chiamano Mimì). When young poet Rodolfo meets seamstress Mimì, it’s love at first sight. But faced by the cruel realities of poverty and ill health, will the flame that burns between them flicker and die? Or will the timeless strength of their youthful passion withstand every trial and tribulation that life can throw at them? A classic tale of tragic romance, La Bohème is a great opera for beginners and regulars alike.

La Traviata

G. Verdi

From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heart breaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the most popular of all operas.
Alfredo falls in love in with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s fantastic melodies include the famous Brindisi and the exuberant ‘Sempre libera’ – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing.
Christopher Lane’s production for Opera Brava brings out all the emotional colour, from the first discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion.

Tosca

G. Puccini

Tosca is one of the most lethal operas. None of the central characters make it to the end alive, hero or villain. Unsurprisingly then, it's a thrilling melodrama often dismissed as one dimensional. However you would be foolish to go in with this attitude. Opera Brava have set this production in Rome in the 1940's during the war and they take Puccini's overtly theatrical tale and make it astonishingly moving with an unusual twist in the final death scene.
